Buyer guide

Specify a shipping carton around the load and route

A corrugated shipping box performs as part of a complete logistics system. Internal dimensions, board grade, product support, closure, stacking pattern, pallet layout and transport conditions should be reviewed together before material and strength targets are approved.

Single-wall shipping cartons

A practical route for lighter loads and shorter distribution cycles when the chosen flute and liner combination provides the required stacking and puncture performance.

Double-wall export cartons

Additional flute and liner layers improve stiffness and protection for heavier contents, taller stacks or demanding handling. Board selection should still be validated against the complete pack-out.

Cartons with partitions or pads

Corrugated partitions, end caps and pads can separate products, distribute loads and reduce movement. Their orientation and clearances should be checked with representative products.

Shipping carton specification checklist

  • Internal length, width and depth plus complete packed weight
  • Product support, fragility, partitions, pads and acceptable movement
  • Stacking height, pallet pattern, storage and transport conditions
  • Board or ECT target, closure, print, quantity, artwork and destination

Validate the complete pack-out

A product sample, pallet plan and expected handling route help us review dimensions, board strength, closure and practical testing before pricing.

Corrugated shipping box buyer FAQ

Which corrugated board grade should I use for shipping cartons?

Single-wall board can suit lighter distribution loads, while double-wall combinations provide greater stacking stiffness and puncture resistance for heavier products or demanding export routes. The grade should be selected from carton dimensions, packed weight, pallet pattern, storage conditions and handling risk rather than flute name alone.

What information is needed to specify carton strength?

Share the required internal dimensions, total packed weight, product support points, number of cartons stacked, pallet arrangement, warehouse duration and destination. Where a specific ECT, burst value or customer test protocol is required, include that target with the quotation request.

How can corrugated shipping boxes be closed?

Regular slotted cartons are commonly closed with pressure-sensitive or water-activated tape. Heavy packs may need a reinforced tape pattern or staples where appropriate. Closure choice should be checked against board grade, contents, opening expectations, automated packing equipment and destination requirements.

Should an export shipping carton be tested with the actual product?

Yes when product value, weight, fragility, stacking height or route complexity creates risk. A representative packed sample can be evaluated for compression, drop, vibration, closure retention and pallet stability before the production specification is approved.
